Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) at Elkins Marine (EMTI) -
General Operator’s Certificate (GOC) for GMDSS at Elkins Marine Training International Nigeria (Our GMDSS training in Africa/Nigeria)
This course is designed to provide delegates with the level of knowledge needed to be competent in the use of VHF/HF/MF radiotelephony, telex, satellite procedures, and equipment used commercially in the GMDSS.
All GMDSS equipment are used at Elkins Marine to ensure candidates meet requirements of a radio operator.
Suitable for on-ship operators - Offshore and coast station operators - Aviation operators - ports operators - COC endorsement requirement.
Safety, Security and on watch radio operators.
Come and join the real operations and search and rescue (SAR) experience conducted by experienced professionals. Simulated scenarios and real equipment at EMTI are used to maximise the knowledge of candidates.
You will learn:
To safely operate marine radio equipment in sea area – 1- 4, as recommended in Annex 3 to IMO Assembly Resolution A. 7.03 (17)
To efficiently operate the GMDSS equipment and to have primary responsibility for radio communication during distress incidents.
How to safe guards against accidental/ unintentional transmission of false distress alert / procedures to use in order to mitigate the effect of false distress alerts following unintentional transmission.
This course is revised to meet the Radio Regulations 2012
This course covers the mandatory training requirements for the General Operator’s Certificate for GMDSS Radio Personnel. It is based on the provisions of section A-IV/2 of the STCW Code and derived from IMO Model Course 1.25. The course is approved by the US Coast Guard & NIMASA. Successful completion leads to the award of a US Coastguard Certificate of Completion (Proof of Passing Certificate).
For Nigerians. A license is issued under NIMASA.
